PSA Singapore, Solar and Energy Efficiency Program
PSA Singapore combines solar PV deployment with systematic energy management across its container terminal operations at Pasir Panjang and Tuas (PSA Singapore, 2024). PSA Singapore's targets are to cut absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50 percent by 2030 and 75 percent by 2040 from a 2019 baseline, and to reach net zero by 2050. PSA International sets the same targets for the group (PSA Singapore, 2024; PSA International, 2024).
By the end of 2023, PSA Singapore had a total solar PV capacity of 9.41 megawatt peak (MWp), generating 11.8 gigawatt hours (GWh) of renewable electricity annually (PSA Singapore, 2024). PSA Singapore also improved the Power Usage Effectiveness of its data center from 1.83 in 2011 to 1.39 in 2023, and its Tuas Port Maintenance Base Admin Building is its first net zero energy building (PSA Singapore, 2024).
PSA Singapore reports total Scope 1 and 2 emissions of 308 ktCO2e in 2023, a 10 percent decrease from 2022 (PSA Singapore, 2024). In 2023 it had six electric prime movers on trial within the terminal, and it uses battery-powered automated guided vehicles (AGVs) at Tuas Port (PSA Singapore, 2024).
PSA's program aligns with the Singapore Green Plan 2030, which sets sectoral targets for solar deployment, building efficiency and vehicle electrification (Singapore Green Plan 2030, n.d.).
Transferability
For ASEAN DMCs, PSA's program demonstrates that solar energy is viable in hot, high irradiance port environments, and that systematic energy management can be embedded within existing operational frameworks.
