PSA Singapore, quay-crane hoist predictive-maintenance proof of concept

Pasir Panjang, SingaporeNot specified

PSA Singapore’s 2025 sustainability report describes a completed predictive-maintenance proof of concept for quay-crane hoist systems, developed with NUS. Sensors were deployed on two Pasir Panjang cranes, alongside a portable sensor variant and diagnostic capability. PSA was refining integration into maintenance workflows and planned to scale the findings to Tuas. This provides a specific example of condition monitoring; the report does not quantify resulting downtime, cost or emissions savings (PSA Singapore, 2026).

In a 2025 interview, a PSA executive described wider use of IoT sensors and AI-based anomaly detection on crane components, which he said "enhances reliability" and helps maximize asset lifespan (Tanna, 2025). This is company commentary, not an independent evaluation of results.

Transferability

DMC ports can test condition monitoring on one or two critical quay cranes with a university partner before scaling up. Portable sensors can extend monitoring to more equipment at lower cost. The key step is building the results into existing maintenance workflows, and ports should record downtime and cost savings so the value can be shown.
